Hearing Testing

Screening Hearing Tests

A screening test is to identify if there is a possible hearing problem or not. No diagnosis can be made with these tests.

We do the following:

  • Hearing Screening at Retirement Villages
  • Newborn hearing screening.
  • Hearing screenings at schools.
  • Industrial baseline and follow-up screening.

Diagnostic Hearing Tests

Diagnostic hearing tests are in-depth tests which we perform to identify the degree and cause of hearing loss. These tests can be done on children and adults (Please note that we do not see children between 1 and 5 years of age – we can refer you to an Audiologist who can assist). Diagnostic testing also helps us, as Audiologists, to make the best decisions regarding the course of action for the patients, such as:

  • Referral to an Ear- Nose & Throat Specialist
  • Recommendation of the appropriate listening device such as hearing aids or FM systems
  • Referral for alternative diagnostic testing , such as ABR in the case of babies
  • Industrial Diagnostic testing and recommendations for WCA claims

Hearing Aid Services

Hearing aid selection and fitting

A full range of hearing aids are available. The right hearing aid is chosen according to your own hearing needs. No two people are the same and what might be suitable for the one person will not necessarily be suitable for the next. We will guide you and help you make an informed choice. If you are unsure about the benefits, we will gladly organise a trial period in order for you to make an informed decision.

Hearing repairs and servicing

We do small repairs in office e.g. Replacement of tubes, cleaning of aids, etc. We will gladly send your hearing aid to the manufacturer if any repairs or services are needed.

Hearing aid batteries and cleaning products

We always have stock of batteries. We try to keep stock of most other hearing aid consumables and cleaning products and if we don’t have what you need or want, we will gladly order it for you.

Hearing Protection and Swim plugs

Hearing protection

People exposed to loud noise (i.e. factory workers, hunters, musicians, miners, bikers etc.) need to protect their hearing against noise induced hearing loss by using hearing protectors. We supply custom hearing protectors, which are made to fit the shape of the ear and can be fitted with different filters to enable the person to still have a conversation in the presence of the noise.

Swim plugs

Custom swim plugs (swim plugs made to fit the shape of the ear canal) can be beneficial for children and adults with chronic middle ear infections, perforated ear-drums, ventilation tubes etc. These swim plugs can also be worn by surfers to prevent “surfer’s ears” due to cold water.

Assistive Listening Devices (ALD’s)

Sometimes hearing aids are not enough to help in all the communication situations one might experience. ALD’s are then recommended to help in certain situations, such as:

  • Wired and wireless hearing aid accessories to link to cell phones, TV’s, landlines, iPods etc.

  • FM-systems (especially in school-aged children).
